We champion one-person businesses.
We will make it just as easy to work for yourself as it is to work for an employer- either as a freelancer or as an entrepreneur starting your own bootstrapped business from home. We believe all literate people with internet access have the tools they need to build successful independent careers. We exist to bridge the gap between the old and new employment models.
Why We Matter
Independent careers are on the rise.
Already, over a fifth of US workers pursue independent careers, working outside the traditional employment paradigm of full time jobs for established organizations. The generation taking power has even more of an independent drive: more than a quarter of millennials are currently self-employed, and half to two thirds of millennials are interested in entrepreneurship.
What We've Done So Far
We’re starting with free courses for creating a one-person business.
Our courses show people how to use their existing talents to create sustainable businesses. These courses address practical issues like building a client base and choosing the right tools, plus leverage insights and interviews from successful professionals within each field we cover. In building our educational resources, we uncovered the knowledge we need to build bigger, more powerful tools.
What We're Building Now
We're building the ultimate independent career platform.
Many people are hesitant to pursue alternative careers because doing so means handling everything- accounting, marketing, strategy, analysis, communication, outreach, etc. We're building boutique marketplaces with a connected backend to help independent professionals kickstart their careers. Our first marketplace, ArtCorgi, helps independent artists take on commissions from everyday art fans.
About the Founders
A grad student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Malcolm has a professional background in neuroscience with specialization in schizophrenia and brain-computer interface (controlling electronics with your thoughts). His ultra-nerd exploits such as his reddit marriage proposal have gained him moderate notoriety. Malcolm was spurred to create Gigaverse to aid the hundreds of online citizens he encounters who, despite having amazing skills, don't feel they have the tools they need to embark on their own professional ventures.
After working with a variety of scrappy startups, Simone served as Director of Marketing at HubPages (a site that ranked 45th in US traffic during her tenure), where she was flown across the US to show everyday people how to create careers as online writers. It was through HubPages that Simone discovered that massive numbers of professionals were starting their own businesses using readily-available online tools. Inspired by these entrepreneurs' tenacity (not to mention their slip-ups, hardships, and struggles), she launched Gigaverse to aid their pursuits.
